A passenger van overturned early Friday morning on Palisades Interstate Parkway in Englewood Cliffs, N.J., leaving four people dead and eight injured, according to the Palisades Interstate Parkway Police.
The van, a Ford Econoline E350, which was found overturned on the center median of the southbound lanes around 1:27 a.m. on Friday, was returning workers from upstate New York factories to their homes, according to the police. The van had New York license plates.
The passengers were trapped inside the van and had to be extricated, according to police officials. Four people were pronounced dead at the scene. Eight of the passengers sustained injuries, including severe head trauma, as well as minor injuries.
They were taken to several nearby hospitals, including Hackensack University Medical Center, Jersey City Medical Center, Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck, and Englewood Health.
The passengers have not been identified, and an investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
